Who watches in Hindi

Hindi is the most spoken language in India and one of the most spoken languages in the world. It is the everyday language of hundreds of millions of people across the north and centre of the country, from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, and it is understood far beyond the states where it is the first language.

Indian viewers increasingly watch video in their own language rather than in English, on YouTube, on short video apps and on streaming services, and much of that viewing comes from beyond the big cities. A video in Hindi speaks to that audience directly, including the many viewers who understand some English but would rather not follow a whole video in it.

What Sonilo does in Hindi

Hindi

Hindi is selected when you start from this page. Add any other language in the same job; each is priced on its own.

Lip sync, on or off

On, the speakers' mouths are rendered again to match the Hindi lines. Off, your picture stays exactly as it was and only the voice changes.

Proofread the Hindi script

Read the transcript beside its Hindi translation, line by line, and correct it before anything is voiced. Or upload your own Hindi .srt or .vtt and the dub says exactly those lines.

Hindi subtitles: not yet in the picture

None of the subtitle fonts can set Hindi text yet, so subtitles cannot be burned into a Hindi dub today. The dubbed video itself is unaffected.

Getting Hindi right

What to check while you proofread a video going into Hindi.

Decide how much Hinglish to keep

Everyday Hindi mixes in English words freely: phone, office, discount, update. A translation that replaces every one of them with formal Hindi can sound like a government notice. While you proofread, keep the English words your viewers actually say, and save pure Hindi for content where a formal tone is the point.

Choose aap or tum

Hindi has a respectful aap and a familiar tum. Brands, teachers and most creators address viewers as aap, which is the safe default for an audience you do not know. Whichever you choose, check that the whole script uses it, because switching midway is one of the first things a native speaker notices.

Check numbers, prices and units

Indian audiences count in lakh and crore and pay in rupees. If your original quotes dollars or uses millions, decide whether the Hindi version should convert them or keep them, and make the script say it clearly. A price read out wrongly is worse than one left in the original currency.

Read the script in Devanagari

Hindi is written in Devanagari, and that is how you will see the translated script while proofreading. Names of people, products and places are where machine translation slips most often, so read those lines aloud once. If your team reads Hindi better in Roman letters, have a native speaker check the final words.

Who translates video into Hindi

Education and test preparation

Online teachers and education companies reach students across North India in Hindi. Translate lessons recorded in English, proofread every technical term, and keep the English terms students will see in their exams.

Creators reaching Hindi speaking India

Channels that grew in English can open a Hindi audience with the same videos. Finance, technology, cooking and fitness explainers travel well, and lip sync makes the presenter look natural speaking Hindi.

Brands and app launches

Ads and product demos in Hindi reach customers beyond the big metro cities. Translate the English master, keep the brand name and the offer line exactly as approved, and download the Hindi cut for each platform.

Workplace training

Factories, retail chains and delivery companies train large teams who are most comfortable in Hindi. Safety briefings and process videos translated from English keep the original visuals while the instructions become clear to everyone.

You read the script before it is voiced.

Four steps from the video you already have to the same video in Hindi.

  1. 01

    Upload your video

An .mp4, .mov or .m4v up to 5 minutes and 400 MB. Sonilo detects the language that is spoken, so there is nothing to set. Add an .srt or .vtt per language if you already have the lines.

  2. 02

    Pick Hindi

Choose Hindi, add more languages if you like, and decide whether lip sync renders the mouths again to match.

  3. 03

    Proofread the Hindi script

Switch on proofreading to read the transcript and the Hindi translation line by line, and fix names, product terms and jokes before anything is voiced.

  4. 04

    Watch, then download

Play every language in the browser. Download the translated videos and their subtitles on any paid plan.

Made for the video you already cut.

The soundtrack stays

Sonilo keeps the original background music and sound effects and replaces only the speech, with lip sync on or off.

The speaker’s own voice

Sonilo keeps the speaker’s own voice in the new language, so the translated speech sounds like the person in your video, not a stock voice. There is no voice to record or set up.

Lip sync, when you want it

On: mouths are re-rendered to match the new language. Off: your original picture stays untouched and only the voice is replaced.

You approve the words

The translation is a script you can read and correct first. A product name, a joke, a line of dialogue: fix it before it is spoken.

Your subtitles, spoken

Upload an .srt or .vtt for a language and the dub says exactly those lines, instead of a machine translation of them.

Music for the new cut

Sonilo also adds music to video. If a translated version needs its own soundtrack, add music to it in the same account.

Before you upload

What people ask before they translate their first video.

Will the Hindi be formal or everyday Hindi?

The translated script is yours to read and change before anything is voiced. If it sounds too formal, swap in the English words your viewers use every day while you proofread, so the result sounds like natural spoken Hindi.

My video is in Hinglish. Can Sonilo translate it?

Sonilo detects the main language spoken in your video and translates from it. With proofreading on, you see the transcript first, so you can check how mixed lines were heard before the translation is voiced.

Can I translate a Hindi video into English?

Yes. Upload the Hindi video and pick English as the target, and add other languages in the same job if you need them.

Can I translate into Hindi and other Indian languages together?

Yes. Besides Hindi, Sonilo dubs Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, Punjabi and Sindhi. Pick as many as you need in one job; each is voiced and priced on its own.

Can I put Hindi subtitles on the video?

Not yet. Sonilo dubs video into Hindi, but none of its subtitle fonts can set Hindi text, so Hindi subtitles cannot be burned into the picture today. The dubbed video itself is unaffected.

Which languages can I translate into Hindi from?

Any of the other 21 languages Sonilo works with. You do not pick the source: Sonilo detects the language spoken in your video when it transcribes it, then translates that transcript into Hindi.

Which languages can I translate into?

English, German, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic, French, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese, Vietnamese, Korean, Italian, Russian, Tamil, Turkish, Kannada, Thai, Gujarati, Malayalam, Punjabi (India), Sindhi (India). Pick any number in one job.

How long can my video be?

Up to 5 minutes and 400 MB, as .mp4, .mov or .m4v. For something longer, split it and translate the parts.

Can I edit the translation?

Yes. You read and correct the translated script before the video is rendered, so names and phrasing come out the way you want.

What does lip sync change?

With lip sync on, the speakers' mouths are rendered again to match the new language. With it off, your picture is left exactly as it was and only the voice changes, so mouths still move to the original language.

Does Sonilo keep the background music and sound effects?

Yes. Sonilo keeps your video's original background music and sound effects and replaces only the speech, so the translated version plays over the same soundtrack, with lip sync on or off.

Does Sonilo clone the speaker's voice?

Yes. Sonilo keeps the speaker's own voice in the new language: the translated speech sounds like the person in your video, not a stock voice, and when several people speak, each keeps their own. There is no voice to record or set up first.

I already have subtitles. Can I use them?

Yes. Upload an .srt or .vtt for a language and the dub says exactly those lines.

How does Sonilo compare with HeyGen, ElevenLabs and Rask?

HeyGen lists more languages, and ElevenLabs Dubbing is the cheapest way in.
